Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion (MIC) Sampling and Test Kit
............................................................................................................................................................

CorrConsult has developed a sampling and test kit to enable owners, supervisors, and/or operators of industrial systems to collect and ship materials of construction, deposits, and fluid samples to CorrConsult for subsequent laboratory analysis.

When it is suspected that an industrial system may be affected by corrosion and/or the biodeterioration effects of bacteria known to be associated with microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC), the sampling and test kit provides the user with the tools and instructions to obtain fluid, deposits and/or materials of construction samples in a scientifically sound and microbiologically sterile manner.

Contents of MIC sampling and test kit         Localized pinhole associated with MIC

A written report, which include chemical, microbiological, and metallurgical results is provided to the client within two weeks after receipt of the samples. In addition, the report will also include conclusions with regard to the extent of materials deterioration and recommendations for mitigation. Owners and/or operators of systems affected by pinhole leaks can then make informed decisions regarding rehabilitation and future preventative maintenance and protection of their investment.

Included in the MIC sampling and test kit:

  • Prepaid overnight courier shipping label
  • Sterile containers for collection of bulk fluid sample, materials of construction, and/or deposit samples
  • Sterile sampling tools (latex gloves, sealing film, etc)
  • Insulated shipping container
  • Freezable cold pack
  • Chain of custody documentation

  Deliverables:

  • Water chemistry report (if water sample was submitted)
  • Microbiological test results for bacteria known to be associated with MIC
  • Deposit characterization
  • Metallurgy report on materials of construction
  • Assessment of remaining materials wall thickness
  • Conclusions on cause and extent of deterioration
  • Recommendations for rehabilitation and mitigation
