Video-Borescope Inspection and Condition Assessment of Fire Protection Systems (FPS)

CorrConsult provides comprehensive, on-site condition assessment services for wet, dry, and pre-action fire protection systems (FPS).  The procedure includes on-site internal inspection of suspect sprinkler system piping as well as off-site laboratory evaluation and analysis of pipe and water samples collected during the inspection procedure. The information gathered is used to identify the existing or potential corrosion/failure mechanism and the extent of the corrosion damage to existing fire protection systems. In addition, sites are identified where pipe samples are collected for subsequent analysis for corrosion damage, biodeterioration due to microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC), characterization of the corrosion mechanism, and assessment of remaining pipe wall thickness.

On-site inspections for condition assessment are performed by qualified corrosion engineers and technicians who are regarded as foremost experts in this field.  State-of-the-art video-borescope equipment is utilized to provide a dynamic image of the interior surface of sprinkler piping. Follow-up laboratory analyses are performed by reputable laboratories in the fields of chemistry, microbiology, and materials engineering.

As-built FPS drawings of the facility are utilized to generate detailed proposals for on-site condition assessment inspections.  On-site support from licensed sprinkler technicians is required during performance of the assessment to provide access to the sprinkler system/s and to assist with the collection of pipe samples for subsequent laboratory analysis.

  Included in a FPS condition assessment:

  • Video and photo documentation of internal pipe condition
  • Laboratory analyses including water chemistry, metallurgy, and microbiology for MIC
  • Comprehensive report that includes a discussion of the findings and recommendations for cost effective rehabilitation of affected systems
